The crucifixion of Jesus is described in all four Gospels and is the central event of the Christian faith, remembered by Catholics on Good Friday. It has also been one of the most painted subjects in Western art, and artists have shown it in many ways, from the quiet, solemn panels of the 1300s to the dramatic, emotional canvases of the Baroque.
