Our Lady of Lourdes is a title of the Virgin Mary venerated by the Roman Catholic Church. The title is associated with the Marian apparitions that occurred in Lourdes, France in 1858 to Saint Bernadette Soubirous. The image of Our Lady of Lourdes has been widely reproduced and can be found in shrines and homes around the world.
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is a group of churches, religious buildings and places of worship on the site where the apparitions occurred. Pope Pius XII issued a papal encyclical Le pèlerinage de Lourdes on the 100th centenary anniversary of the Marian apparitions.
Our Lady of Lourdes is also the name for several schools, including Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, New York, Our Lady of Lourdes Miami Church in Miami, Florida, and Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. There is also an Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish and School in University City, Missouri.
