The Bible is the most important source of inspiration for all Christians. How it was interpreted by the different religious denominations can be deduced from the book’s ornamentation and execution. The scenes on the cover of this missal, for example, are clearly Roman Catholic. Represented in the corners are the Church Fathers, who are venerated by Catholics as the founders of the Christian faith. The Virgin is also central, both on this cover and in Catholic doctrine.
