Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of Pope Saint Damasus I, who served as the Bishop of Rome from 366 to 384. He is known for his contributions to the liturgy and his defense of orthodoxy. Saint Damasus I is also recognized for his work in promoting the veneration of martyrs and his commissioning of the Latin translation of the Bible, known as the Vulgate, by Saint Jerome.
