Saints Damian and Cosmas, also known as the "Holy Unmercenaries" or the "Anargyroi" (meaning "without silver" in Greek), were twin brothers who lived in the 3rd century AD. They were born in Arabia and became skilled physicians.

Damian and Cosmas were renowned for their medical expertise and their willingness to treat patients without accepting payment, hence the title "Unmercenaries."
