David Plays the Harp for Saul (1645-1646) by Christoffel van Sichem - Bible Coloring Page
Details:
David was a skilled musician and was known for playing the harp. According to the Bible, he was brought before King Saul to play the harp and soothe the king's troubled spirit. In 1 Samuel 16:23, it states "And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him."
This event is described in 1 Samuel 16:14-23, where David was anointed by Prophet Samuel to become the next king of Israel, and is brought to play the harp for King Saul, who was troubled by an evil spirit. David's playing of the harp would calm King Saul, and the evil spirit would leave him. David becomes a frequent companion to King Saul and is also described in the Bible as a brave warrior and a successful leader. This event was also seen as a first step in David's rise to the throne.
