Cristo Coronando a San José (1636–1640) by Francisco de Zurbarán - Public Domain Catholic Painting
This scene takes place entirely in the celestial sphere, with a background of defined and golden clouds. Saint Joseph appears in profile, kneeling, and of advanced age, holding a hand to his chest and a flowery rod. In front of him, Jesus Christ stands, with his right hand holding a cross that leans against his body and, with his left, he is crowning the saint with flowers.
From the upper left corner of the composition, in a glorious break, God the Father contemplates the scene while he holds the terrestrial sphere. Next to him, the dove of the Holy Spirit appears among the clouds.
Regarding the treatment of color, a golden background contrast with the dark tones of the clothing of Saint Joseph and the lighter and more vivid tones of the clothing of Christ, in pink and flat blue.
