The Good Shepherd (1870, France) Romain Cazes - Public Domain Catholic Painting

Details:

The phrase "the Good Shepherd" is used to refer to Jesus Christ and His inherent goodness, righteousness, and sacrificial love[1][2][3][4]. This image is found in the pericope of John 10:1–21, where Jesus is depicted as laying down His life for His sheep[5].

Romain Cazes, a French historical painter, was a pseudonym of Jean François Étienne Joseph Victor Cazes. Cazes was born at St. Béat (Haute-Garonne) in 1810. He was a pupil of Ingres and is known chiefly for his portraits and subjects from sacred history. His paintings and murals decorate the Paris churches of St. Francois Xavier and Notre-Dame de Clignancourt and churches in the provinces. He died in 1881.
