"The Assumption of the Virgin" is a common subject in Christian art, depicting the Virgin Mary being taken up to heaven, body and soul, at the end of her earthly life. Francisco Bayeu y Subias was a Spanish painter known for his religious and historical works, and he was a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid.
