"The Assumption of the Virgin" is a common subject in Christian art, depicting the Virgin Mary being taken up to heaven, body and soul, at the end of her earthly life. Francisco Bayeu y Subias was a Spanish painter known for his religious and historical works, and he was a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid.

Boceto para la decoración de uno de los segmentos de la cúpula de la iglesia del monasterio de Santa Engracia de Zaragoza. Se trata de una obra temprana, muy próxima al estilo de Antonio González Velázquez (1723-1794).
