Nicolas Auguste Hesse (1795–1869) was a French painter and lithographer known for historical, mythological, and religious works, as well as portraits and designs for stained glass windows. He received notable recognition in his lifetime, including a first-class medal in 1838 and a decoration in 1840. Hesse eventually became a member of the Institut, succeeding Eugène Delacroix in 1863.
