Medallion with Saint Matthew from an Icon Frame (1100) - Public Domain Orthodox Stock Photo

This Byzantine medallion, made of gold, silver and enamel worked in cloisonne around 1100, once formed part of the frame surrounding an icon and depicts the Evangelist Saint Matthew. It is about 3 1/4 inches in diameter and is held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
