Elijah and the Angel by Godfrey Kneller (17th Century) - Public Domain Bible Painting
The story of Elijah, according to the Book of Kings, involves an episode where Jezebel, enraged that Elijah had ordered the deaths of her priests, threatened to kill Elijah. Later Elijah would prophesy about Jezebel's death, because of her sin. Elijah fled to Beersheba in Judah, continued alone into the wilderness, and finally sat down under a shrub, praying for death. He fell asleep under the tree; the angel of the Lord touched him and told him to wake up and eat. When he awoke he found bread and a jar of water. He ate, drank, and went back to sleep. The angel came a second time and told him to eat and drink because he had a long journey ahead of him.
