Catholic angelology teaches that angels are pure spirits created by God to serve as his messengers and agents. The Bible mentions three angels by name: Sts. Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel, who are referred to as archangels. Catholics believe that each person has a guardian angel who watches over them from infancy to death. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that the existence of angels is a truth of faith.
