Today we reflect on a Christmas antiphon from the Liturgy of the Hours, which is the official prayer-book of the church.

So with mental prayer, there are many ways to go about it. I prefer reading a short passage multiple times while focusing on different questions, such as what the passage means, how it makes you feel, and how you can live better.

So let’s read that passage again, this time think about how this passage makes you feel.

Come let us praise the Lord with joy: let us joyfully sing to God our saviour. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.

Ant. Unto us a Christ is born, * O come, let us worship Him.

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. For the Lord will not cast off his people: for in his hand are all the ends of the earth, and the heights of the mountains are his.

Ant. O come, let us worship Him.

Let's read that passage again, and continue to think about how this passage makes you feel.

Next, let’s read the passage again, but this time I want you to think about what this passage means to you:

For this next reading, I want you to think about how you can live holier based on the passage

Come let us praise the Lord with joy: let us joyfully sing to God our saviour. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.

So, what can we learn from today's reading?

Well, let’s look at the moral virtues. There are four of them. They are prudence: always moving toward virtue and away from vice. Justice: giving others what they deserve. Fortitude: staying faithful during difficulties. And Temperance: keeping balance in all areas of life. Justice is giving Jesus Christ what He deserves. He is indeed the great King above all gods. Any false gods you might have...Jesus is higher than them. And, like the Bible says, many of the gods of the pagans are devils. But a god can be anything. Could be money, or power, or anything else. We have to forget about all these other crazy things. Ignore the politics and the arguments and the desire to be popular or liked. Remember that Christ was born in a lowly manger even though He was the King of everything that has ever existed. We owe Christ everything, and we should act as if we do as much as possible. That means...like I say over and over and over. Pray, pray, pray more often. Think about Christ more often. Especially think about His nativity and His passion. I pray the rosary every day, and that is an easy way to meditate on Christ, but there are other ways as well, like reading the gospels. You could read one gospel everyday, the shorter ones take less than an hour to read. So have at it. And get holier. It can’t hurt.
