Sketch, from around 1763, for the fresco The Surrender of Granada that was located in the old dining room and kissing room of the Queen's Room, today converted into the Gala Dining Room of the Royal Palace of Madrid. "The Surrender of Granada" likely depicts the historical event of the fall of Granada, the last stronghold of the Moors in Spain, to the Catholic Monarchs, Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon, in 1492. Francisco Bayeu y Subías was a Spanish painter known for his historical and religious works, and he was a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid.
