Details:

According to the New Testament, Bartholomew was one of Jesus' twelve apostles. He is said to have been martyred for converting King Polymius of Armenia to Christianity. He has also been identified as Nathanael or Nathaniel, who appears in the Gospel of John when Philip introduces Jesus to him, though some modern commentators disagree with this identification.
