Saint Nestor of Thessaloniki was a young Christian disciple of Saint Demetrius (c. 290–306 AD). After receiving his mentor's blessing, Nestor courageously challenged and defeated the fearsome gladiator Lyaeus in the arena. This victory led to the immediate beheading of Nestor and the execution of Saint Demetrius by Emperor Maximian. His feast day is October 27.
