The Archangel Gabriel is a popular figure in Russian Orthodox iconography. He is usually depicted wearing white or blue garments and holding a spear in his right hand. In some icons, he may also be holding a mirror in his left hand. The Archangel Gabriel is often associated with the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary, and may be depicted with a bouquet of lilies. He is considered the leader of the heavenly hosts and was God's instrument to the Mother of God at the Annunciation.
