Two Angels from an Ethiopian Biblical Manuscript (20th Century) - Public Domain Orthodox Painting

Details:

Ethiopian angels are featured prominently in Ethiopian Christian art and architecture[4]. They can be found in the form of paintings, statues, and frescos in churches such as Debre Berham Selassie / Trinity at the Mount of Light church[2], Debre Birhan Selassie Church[2], and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa[2].

The Ethiopian Biblical Manuscripts are housed in the Abba Garima Monastery in Ethiopia and are not known to have ever left the monastery[1]. They are primarily written in Ge'ez, an Ethiopian liturgical language[2], and are believed to be the earliest known illuminated Biblical Gospel manuscripts[3]. The manuscripts published by the British Library are not under copyright under Ethiopian law[4], and traditional manuscript production and preservation occurs in monasteries and churches across Ethiopia[5].
