The Way, the Truth, and the 80/20 Rule

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me."

John 14:6

Well, did you know there is a mathematical theory called the Pareto Distribution (also known as the Pareto Principle or 80/20 rule)? That theory states that for many phenomena 80% of the result comes from 20% of the effort. The principle has been named after Vilfredo Pareto—an Italian economist—who, back in 1895, noticed that about 80% of Italy’s land belonged to 20% of the country’s population.

What's this have to do with the Bible and mental prayer? Well, it seems that 20% of Bible verses must account for 80% of all the verses quoted. Which is why John 14:6 is really popular and Jude 1:5 is not. That's why Michael Jackson was really popular and the rest of the Jackson's were not. That's why most of the sales come from only a few sales people.

Listen: 80% of the benefit you get from prayer comes from only 20% of your effort. You should find out how and when you get the most benefit from prayer and increase your efforts there. Use the 80/20 rule to your advantage. Maybe first thing in the morning is your most productive prayer time. If so, keep praying at that time every day and you'll benefit much more than trying lots of other random times.

Until next time...stay holy my friend
