Luminous Mysteries Chapel at Pope Saint John Paul II Shrine, Washington D.C., USA - Catholic Stock Photo
The Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington D.C., USA is a place of worship, religious formation, and cultural renewal to feed the minds and souls of its visitors.
The Shrine’s chapel provides a space of intimate encounter with St. John Paul II and his deep faith in Jesus Christ. The beautiful and profoundly theological mosaics that fill the chapel walls brilliantly depict the Luminous Mysteries, which were added to the Rosary by Pope John Paul II in 2002.
The mosaics were designed and installed by Jesuit Father Marko Rupnik with the help of his community of religious and lay artists in Rome, Centro Aletti. Father Rupnik is known for his beautiful restoration of the Redemptoris Mater Chapel in the Apostolic Palace.
The altar also contains relics of four saints beatified or canonized by Pope John Paul II: St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Albert Chmielowski, St. Faustina Kowalska, and St. Gianna Beretta Molla.
