This altar—inside the Luminous Mysteries chapel at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington D.C., USA—contains relics of four saints beatified or canonized by Pope John Paul II: St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Albert Chmielowski, St. Faustina Kowalska, and St. Gianna Beretta Molla.

The beautiful and profoundly theological mosaics that fill the chapel walls brilliantly depict the Luminous Mysteries, which were added to the Rosary by Pope John Paul II in 2002.

The mosaics were designed and installed by Jesuit Father Marko Rupnik with the help of his community of religious and lay artists in Rome, Centro Aletti. Father Rupnik is known for his beautiful restoration of the Redemptoris Mater Chapel in the Apostolic Palace.
