Some might say this image—named Whisperings of Love—is a depiction of Cupid and a young girl. However, Bouguereau was a French Catholic, studied for the priesthood, and made many Catholic themed images. Therefore, this piece could just as easily represent a guardian angel whispering the love of God into the young girl's ear. It seems more likely that this girl is pure and not thinking thoughts of carnal love due to her white dress. White generally represents innocence and purity.
